We live inside the stories we’ve been given. Here, they can be rewritten.

About Megan

Narrative counsellor, educator, and founder of The Edit.

I’m Megan Marie Peterson, Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, narrative counsellor, educator, and founder of The Edit — a studio for becoming.

My work explores the stories that shape identity, relationships, and possibility. Through narrative counselling, I support clients in reflecting on the meanings they have inherited, internalized, and lived — and in discovering new ways those stories might be held.

Alongside my work as a counsellor, I continue in arts education, guiding students through theatre and storytelling. This experience informs my approach, where conversation, reflection, and creative inquiry open space for new understanding.

I come to this work shaped by prairie landscapes, arts education, and a lifelong engagement with storytelling in both educational and reflective contexts.

I locate myself as a white, cisgender woman working within systems that influence identity, power, and access to care. My practice is informed by ongoing supervision, continuing education, and a commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed counselling.

Every life is a story in progress. Healing unfolds when we reclaim authorship.

Why The Edit

Where the work began.

The Edit began with a simple question:

What if therapy felt more like authorship?

In my work as an educator and counsellor, I witnessed how profoundly people are shaped by the stories they inherit, internalize, and embody. I also saw how healing begins when those stories are met with curiosity, care, and reflection rather than judgment.

The Edit grew from this understanding — a practice where narrative therapy, somatic awareness, expressive arts, and reflective inquiry meet within ethical, trauma-informed care.

Every rewrite needs a witness — someone to hold the light steady while you move through the next chapter.

The Approach

How this work unfolds.

My work bridges clinical practice with the lived, embodied experience of story.

Rooted in narrative therapy and postmodern counselling, sessions explore how identity is shaped by voice, body, lineage, culture, and context. Stories are carried not only in language, but also in the body, relationships, and social systems around us.

Drawing from expressive arts, shadow integration, biomythography, and compassion-focused practices, counselling becomes both reflective and embodied.

Insight is not imposed — it is discovered.
Meaning is not prescribed — it is co-authored.

This work does not erase history or promise reinvention. Instead, it widens the meanings available to you, supporting agency, coherence, and intentional becoming.

The Role of Witness

Why the therapeutic relationship matters.

At the heart of The Edit is witnessing.

Healing often begins when a story is held without judgment. To be witnessed is to be seen, heard, and met with steadiness.

Within the safety of a therapeutic relationship, shame softens, language returns, and fragmented parts begin to reconnect. The nervous system learns that it does not have to navigate alone.

My Commitment

The ethical foundation of the work.

I am committed to ethical, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care. I honour the ways personal history, social location, and intersectionality shape lived experience.

My practice welcomes complexity and invites accountability, reflection, and growth.

The Edit is a practice of compassionate revision — where each iteration of your story is met with dignity, and becoming unfolds with intention and care.
