When Healing Becomes Compliance

Some people learned to heal correctly before they learned they could say no.

This reflection considers the one who learned to keep the peace, agree quickly, and place others’ comfort before their own certainty.

Moving at the Pace of Safety

Growth does not come from urgency.

This reflection considers self-trust and the moment we slow down enough to feel our bodies sense of safety.

What to Know

Guidance for beginning counselling.

Beginning counselling can feel like stepping into a new chapter of your story. These answers offer guidance on what to expect, how sessions unfold, and how to begin with The Edit. If your question isn’t listed here, you are welcome to reach out.

Before You Begin

Taking the first step into your story.

Q: What is a First Draft Consultation?
A: The First Draft Consultation is a complimentary 20-minute conversation designed to gently explore what has brought you here. It’s a chance to notice your story, ask questions, and consider whether counselling with The Edit feels like the right fit. There is no pressure to commit — this is simply a space to begin your reflection.

Q: How do I know which session is right for me?
A: Most clients begin with an Individual Narrative Session (50 minutes), which provides space to explore your experiences and perspectives. If you are navigating a major life transition or desire deeper reflection, an Extended Narrative Session (75 minutes) may be more supportive. Reflective & Symbolic Integration sessions can complement your work if aligned with your intentions. We can discuss what feels most helpful during your First Draft Consultation.

Your First Session

Begin noticing the stories shaping your present.

Q: What happens during my first full session?
A: We begin where you are. Through thoughtful questions and attentive listening, we explore the stories shaping your experience and consider how they influence your present. Sessions unfold at a steady, safe, and manageable pace, allowing space for reflection, insight, and gentle discovery.

Q: How should I prepare?
A: No formal preparation is required. You may find it helpful to reflect briefly on what feels most present for you or any questions you’d like to bring. Most clients find it natural to arrive as they are, ready to begin noticing their story and engaging in a collaborative exploration.

Virtual Sessions

Safe, secure, and accessible from wherever you are in Saskatchewan.

Q: How do virtual sessions work?
A: Sessions are conducted through Doxy.me, a secure video platform designed for healthcare professionals. Before your appointment, you’ll receive a private link. At your scheduled time, simply click the link to join from your computer, tablet, or phone — no downloads or accounts are needed. Virtual sessions allow you to engage in counselling from the comfort of your own space while maintaining the same reflective, attentive experience as in-person sessions.

Q: Is my privacy protected during virtual sessions?
A: Absolutely. Doxy.me meets high privacy and security standards for telehealth care. Your conversations remain confidential, just as they would in an in-person session, so you can fully focus on your reflection and exploration with confidence.

Sessions Logistics

Practical details to support your journey.

Q: How often do clients meet?
A: Most clients meet weekly or biweekly, though the rhythm of sessions is guided by your needs and intentions. Some come for a focused season (6–10 sessions), while others continue longer for deeper exploration. We check in regularly to ensure that the work remains aligned, supportive, and meaningful for your story.

Q: How long is each session?
A: Individual Narrative Sessions: 50 minute, Extended Narrative Sessions: 75 minutes, Reflective & Symbolic Integration sessions: 75 minutes allowing flexibility depending on the depth and focus of your work.

Q: How does payment work?
A: Payment is processed securely at the time of booking through Acuity Scheduling. Rates are listed with each session type, and receipts are available upon request.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Sessions may be rescheduled or cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur the full session fee, consistent with professional practice standards.

Your Experience

Reflection, insight, and co-authorship in every session.

Q: What makes counselling at The Edit different?
A: Every session is an act of authorship. Together, we explore, reflect, and co-create meaning in a collaborative, trauma-informed, and strengths-based space. You are supported in noticing your story, considering alternative perspectives, and moving toward clarity, agency, and intentional growth.

Q: Can symbolic or archetypal tools be part of my session?
A: Yes. Reflective & Symbolic Integration sessions may incorporate symbolic or archetypal tools as mirrors for self-exploration. These tools complement your counselling — they are not used for prediction, diagnosis, or as a replacement for clinical care.
