Before Your First Session

Taking the first step into your story.

Q: What is a First Draft Consultation?
A: The First Draft Consultation is a complimentary 20-minute conversation to explore what’s bringing you here and whether counselling with The Edit feels right. There’s no pressure to commit — it’s a gentle way to begin noticing your story.

Q: How do I know which session is right for me?
A: Most clients begin with an Individual Narrative Session (50 minutes). If you’re navigating a major transition or want deeper reflection, an Extended Narrative Session (75 minutes) may be appropriate. Reflective & Symbolic Integration sessions can complement your work if aligned with your goals. We can discuss this during your First Draft Consultation.

Your First Session

Begin noticing the stories shaping your present.

Q: What happens during my first full session?
A: We begin where you are. I ask thoughtful questions and listen carefully. Together, we notice the stories shaping your experience and explore how they influence your present. Sessions move at a pace that feels steady, safe, and manageable.

Q: How should I prepare?
A: No preparation is required. You may find it helpful to reflect briefly on what’s most important to explore or any questions you want to bring. Most clients find it natural to arrive as they are — ready to begin noticing their story.

Sessions Logistics

Practical details to support your journey.

Q: How often do clients meet?
A: Most clients meet weekly or biweekly. Some come for a focused season (6–10 sessions), while others continue longer for deeper exploration. We check in regularly to ensure the work remains aligned and supportive.

Q: How long is each session?
A: Individual Narrative Sessions are 50 minutes. Extended Narrative Sessions and Reflective & Symbolic Integration sessions are 75 minutes.

Q: How does payment work?
A: Payment is processed at the time of booking through Acuity Scheduling. Rates are listed with each session type, and receipts are available upon request.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Sessions may be rescheduled or cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur the full session fee.

Your Experience

Reflection, insight, and co-authorship in every session.

Q: What makes counselling at The Edit different?
A: Every session is an act of authorship. We explore, reflect, and co-create meaning in a collaborative, trauma-informed, and strengths-based space. You are supported in noticing your story, considering alternative perspectives, and moving toward clarity and agency.

Q: Can symbolic or archetypal tools be part of my session?
A: Yes. Reflective & Symbolic Integration sessions may incorporate symbolic or archetypal tools as mirrors for self-exploration. These tools complement counselling — they do not replace clinical care and are not used for prediction or diagnosis.
